Gutters

What can I do to help prevent winter ice damming and icicles?

First thing would be to ensure the attic has proper ventilation to allow cool air in and for warm air to escape. Second, we want to make sure there is proper air sealing around any ceiling penetrations and confirm the attic insulation meets a minimum R-Value as defined by local code. Third if there is still a problem with ice we can install De-Icing cables with a sensor to automatically turn on and melt away snow and ice during winter. De-Icing cables require a GFCI weatherproof outlet to be installed in the soffit to work properly. This must be done by a licensed electrician.

Do gutters or gutter guards cause ice damming or icicles?

The short answer is no, however lets explain. Ice damming or icicles are caused by heat loss from the attic area causing the underside of the roof to get warm and melt snow. The melted snow runs down the roof until it gets to the overhangs or soffit areas. These areas are going to be cold since there is no heat loss below them, this caused the water to freeze at the edge of the roof causing ice dams or in the gutters causing icicles.

Is there a 100% maintenance free gutter protection?

There is no 100% maintenance free gutter protection in existence. Our Permaflow Gutter Protection comes with a 10 year clog free warranty against your gutters and downspouts clogging. With anything there may be some maintenance. For example roofs with large valleys collect debris and large clumps slide down the roof onto the gutter and will not naturally blow away and will require cleaning.

How do I know Gutter guards will work?

We Have been manufacturing our own product, Permaflow Gutter Protection since 2005 and have tested it on thousands of homes across the country with great success. Our Permaflow Gutter Protection is specifically designed for heavily wooded areas and it handles pine needles too.

Why should I replace my gutters?

Gutters are vital to protect your home from water damage. Their purpose is to collect roof water at the roofline and safely carry it down to the ground and away from your homes foundation. If your gutters are leaking, overflowing, broken, or pulling away from the house they should be replaced to prevent damage.
