Frequently Asked Questions

We have compiled this list to help answer some of the most common questions our customers have.

I have a sliding patio door and I need more room to get furniture out, what can I do?

We can replace the sliding patio door a hinged version. This will give you a full clear opening when both panels are open.

My door frame is rotten, can I just replace the frame and reuse the door panel?

Although this is possible its not recommended. Modern door frames are designed to match up with the new door panels and typically do not offer a good seal if retrofitted. Also the cost of materials and labor to replace and old frame is typically more than just installing a whole new door unit complete with frame and door panel.

I have Andersen Narrowline Double hung windows from the 70’s, what I can replace them with?

You have three solutions; first Andersen makes a Tilt Wash Conversion Kit to transform your current window into a modern day 400 series Tilt Wash without the need to remove the existing frame or install new interior trim and siding outside. Second a new replacement window can be installed inside the existing frame. Third a full frame window can be installed to completely replace the window down to the rough opening. This method is the most expensive and invasive but it is the best way to insure 100% air and water sealing and integration with the water management system.

My windows get wet by my windowsill during winter, what will help?

This is caused by condensation. The same thing that happens to a cold beverage on a hot day. The cold glass collects the humidity from the air inside the home and it will build up on the bottom of the glass pane where it’s the coldest. This is a major problem on old windows that are not thermally efficient. This can also happen on new efficient windows when temperatures outside are very cold and the humidity inside is very high. It’s recommended to have inside humidity around 15% in the winter to prevent this.

Which siding is the best for my house?

This is a great question, and our sales team is trained to go over your options to find products that will work with your home, your style and your budget.

We offer the following sidings:

  • Vinyl horizontal siding
  • Vinyl vertical siding
  • Vinyl cedar shake siding
  • Cement siding
  • Cedar shake siding
  • PVC trim boards
  • Wood Siding

Why is it wet behind my siding?

This can be several things. First off no siding is 100% water proof and during extreme storms water can get behind your siding, properly installed siding will force this water out and no damage will occur. Most siding fails because it was installed incorrectly with improper flashings and vapor barriers.

How long should a Shingle roof last?

What is the BEST roof to install on my house?

What can I do to help prevent winter ice damming and icicles?

First thing would be to ensure the attic has proper ventilation to allow cool air in and for warm air to escape. Second, we want to make sure there is proper air sealing around any ceiling penetrations and confirm the attic insulation meets a minimum R-Value as defined by local code. Third if there is still a problem with ice we can install De-Icing cables with a sensor to automatically turn on and melt away snow and ice during winter. De-Icing cables require a GFCI weatherproof outlet to be installed in the soffit to work properly. This must be done by a licensed electrician.

Do gutters or gutter guards cause ice damming or icicles?

The short answer is no, however lets explain. Ice damming or icicles are caused by heat loss from the attic area causing the underside of the roof to get warm and melt snow. The melted snow runs down the roof until it gets to the overhangs or soffit areas. These areas are going to be cold since there is no heat loss below them, this caused the water to freeze at the edge of the roof causing ice dams or in the gutters causing icicles.

Is there a 100% maintenance free gutter protection?

There is no 100% maintenance free gutter protection in existence. Our Permaflow Gutter Protection comes with a 10 year clog free warranty against your gutters and downspouts clogging. With anything there may be some maintenance. For example roofs with large valleys collect debris and large clumps slide down the roof onto the gutter and will not naturally blow away and will require cleaning.

How do I know Gutter guards will work?

We Have been manufacturing our own product, Permaflow Gutter Protection since 2005 and have tested it on thousands of homes across the country with great success. Our Permaflow Gutter Protection is specifically designed for heavily wooded areas and it handles pine needles too.

Why should I replace my gutters?

Gutters are vital to protect your home from water damage. Their purpose is to collect roof water at the roofline and safely carry it down to the ground and away from your homes foundation. If your gutters are leaking, overflowing, broken, or pulling away from the house they should be replaced to prevent damage.

What type of gutters do you offer?

When we started our company in 2005 we vowed to offer our customers anything and everything gutter in any color under the sun and in any specialty metal.

  • Sizes: 5”K 6”k 7”k 6” half round 7” box gutter are among our most popular
